Welcome to Tarpon Triathlon!
Tarpon Triathlon began in 2010 and is held annually. We are a non-profit organization that benefits the Bayou Black Swim Team.
The Bayou Black Swim Team is currently the largest team in our league with more than 200 registered swimmers this year between the ages of 4 & 18. We have a strong, dedicated group of swimmers who have been league champions in the past as well as division champions. As a public swim team we attempt to keep the cost per family at a minimum in order to allow opportunities for kids who otherwise would be unable to participate, as swimming can be an expensive sport. Proceeds from this race allow us to keep our registration cost to a minimum and to purchase needed supplies for our team.
The Tarpon Triathlon was recognized in Competitor Magazine in 2011 as one of three "Great Southern Races" (the other 2 being in Texas). We have had great turnouts in the previous years, maxing out our race capacity.
This is a sprint distance triathlon in South Louisiana. The swim portion of the event is in a pool. The bike and run portions occur on a roadway that follows along the curves of Bayou Black, which makes for a very scenic race.
The race begins with a pool swim. All participants are pre-seeded according to their swim time. It is a staggered start with someone starting the swim portion every 5 seconds. You then proceed to the transition area and on to the bike course which is a 10 mile out and back route along Bayou Black. The run is 3.1 miles out & back along a different portion of Bayou Black.
This is a USAT sanctioned race.
Our race is held at the
