Welcome to the Tarpon Triathlon. We are an annual triathlon held in the bayou region of South Louisiana. Our race began in 2010 & has been going strong ever since! In 2011, we were recognized in Competitor Magazine as one of three "Great Southern Races". This is a sprint distance race with a pool swim. The bike & run portions are along Southdown Mandalay Road which parallels the gentle curves of Bayou Black. The road has several oak trees along the sides, which makes for a scenic race. This is a USAT sanctioned race.
The proceeds of this race help to support the Bayou Black Swim Team, a local non-profit youth swim team. The swim team consists of more than 200 kids age 4-18. As a public swim team, we try to keep the cost per family down as low as possible to allow the opportunity to swim competitively to any child no matter what their financial situation may be. This race helps to defer the costs of equipment, insurance, & league fees.
Swim: 150 meter pool swim with a 10 second staggered start. Racers are pre-seeded by race organizers according to self-reported estimated swim times
Bike: 10 miles. It is a 5 mile out & back North along Southdown Mandalay Dr.
Run: 3 miles as a 1.5 mile out and back South along Southdown Mandalay Dr.
